survival horror

this game came out for the PS1 … or as it was known at the time, playstation; i was eight years old

i bought the uncensored PC version to play on. and even though it’s been a while … this game still scares the absolute shit out of me

when i used to play the role of jill valentine, she always managed to get saved by someone (i won’t spoil it for you). she can carry more things than chris. once i knew how the puzzle fit together i knew where to go and what to do when i got there – variety of different objectives, shitting myself because she’s one blow away from death. even still i went straight for the colt python as soon as i got the key for it and went back to the house

it only occurred to me much later that you can take jill where she’s not supposed to go, upstairs when she’s told to cover the ground floor first. find the broken shotgun so that the ceiling doesn’t come down, when she takes the real one. no jill wasn’t almost any kind of sandwich … and he wasn’t even there to observe her resourcefulness. the door he is supposed to kick down is still intact, in this story line

reading through all the cryptic clues that were written down, completing all the arduous tasks that took a little longer than it would do just to run straight into danger expecting her to get saved. every section of the game has a different version of itself, that she can access by stopping around for longer and completing the more difficult tasks. she spends more of the game on her own, her friend isn’t waiting to save her from herself; but it’s more interesting because instead she takes them by surprise- whn they least expect it

not collapsing when she realises she’s been poisoned, because she had to run down and get the serum herself. mixing the chemicals in the storeroom, before fighting the massive plant monster and apply the potent chemicals to the gigantic roots that it had taken in the flooded cellar, because of the massive amounts of water was keeping it alive- my point being as jill, it dawned on me i could have played the game a lot different and get some of the cutscenes i had not seen before; even knowing (i played the director’s cut) that it was censored in the first place

well it had dawned on me quite some time ago … this was before resident evil became a populist sell out like most original ideas that just should have been left alone instead of desperately beating it into the ground. but it just so happened (until now) this was a fucking impossible to obtain game for the PC. i’ll always be a keyboard player, but i’ve been waiting for years to have a spiteful crack at the jill campaign i never took / do all the things that i didn’t realise years ago made her the one who saves people instead

this isn’t censored … i’ve saved it at the right time setting so you can see the intro without skipping through the bullshit…

if you have a measly £9, even though this is pretty challenging if you play it just using the keyboard but in a good way, you should sit down and play this game. it has everything that other games just don’t and it’s better than solitaire or mah jong tiles:

– an ending
– gameplay is different depending on what choices you make
– if you’re capable of going in deep, it will still frighten the fuck out of you
– single player
– interesting storyline that starts with the choice to pick chris or jill, and varies while you play from there
– different beginnings and different endings, you have to play the game to find out which
– you have to complete difficult tasks that will challenge your map reading skills and items carried your inventory
– playing the woman has a power struggle that can result in her dominance and reveals her to be a proper heroine who doesn’t need saving any more than saving your progress in the game
– an original idea, before it became massively famous in a time where computer games made you actually feel emotions … but even though they tried, no method of a film adaptation managed to hit quite so hard as the game

yeah so needless to say i finally managed to give jill the storyline that i didn’t know she could have, but would have shown me a strong and powerful courageous woman just as she deserved all them years

if you like the video, or my remarks, here is the game to purchase on PC: https://www.gog.com/en/game/resident_evil an absolutely flimsy 9 quid. but if you like puzzles and cloak and dagger things like that, you would love this game because it’s a kind of game where this particular piece had as its debut
