far trek

the only view of the future that i’ve truly accepted is that of gene roddenberry. that’s because it has been proven again and again. the original series was long before my time, the next generation is what i would watch with grandad after school before tea time. obviously it didn’t occur to me back then. in the nineties, to whom would it so occur? there were some radical ideas banded about though, during that place and in that time. some more evolved than others

mobile phones only existed on telly. yet on the goggle box i would see them with their voice-activated computer system, biometrically enabled touch-screen panels, wireless automatic security code clearance that contradistinguished different people and authorised their requests based on their voice, touch-screen tablet computer “padd”s that worked seamlessly with a computer system, video-link conference calling, simulated environments based on what you describe to the computer – from classic terrestrial literary and cultural works, to personal privacy-conscious intimate fantasies. a person that is ever so delicately created and progressing all the time with free will, but in essence a machine [android] that throughout the entire series progresses through its own sentience

yeah i know… sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? to think up such technology, and to imagine that there are places in the world you will never find on any map. secrecy, intelligence, investigative laws that obscure the existence of such things not publically introduced into our society … yet? time will tell. they even had to uninvent things once, for instance concorde [i actually did get to fly on a concorde] was not cleared for take-off because of debris on the runway … no one was harmed, but because of this debris concorde was all of a sudden gone forever with not so much as a word about it. weird, isn’t it? the process of uninvention. what criteria must be met for “the world ain’t ready for this yet” … on top of that, what other technology is possibly out there about which we are unaware?

and oh yes, the ridiculously exaggerated, search-result polluting shit that you will either get to enjoy for just £9.99, or you will end up getting discredited about, just for wondering what you once or twice may spout. the only conceivable circumstance in which you can encounter anything is coming face to face with it. one example is, the fire and rescue services have technology that nobody knows about because it is taken out of the official picture under the official secrets act. i suppose most of my fans wouldn’t really be bothered about a firefighter’s official secrets, unless it was down their pants

secret things, secret places… i can’t be the only one who would sign an oath not to gossip about some technological genius just for the chance to see what the vast majority of us would not be able, nor willing, to accept in this place and at this time.

my original point has taken the scenic route through the logical processing of thoughts. what i’m trying to say is that – well, in the 24th century there was no money / no incentive to get up in the morning / chores practically do themselves and they never need to go to the toilet. they listened to classical music, played [multiple] instruments themselves. there was inter-species genetic compatibility [humanoids] that led us to what cats and dogs can do now. i’ve always wanted to see a liger [a cross between a lion and a tiger]

i’m not the cleverest person in the world, but this is where my pondering hits a dead end. what technological advances exist already? since 1994 most of these things that didn’t exist for a long time yet have been created as i watched a couple of decades go by. i wonder if there are more to come. i understand the technology but what will happen to the adverts? what will become of product placement as it burrows its way ever deeper into the primitive instincts of our “evolved from the inside out” minds?

how many times have you been shown that shitty diagram of the amygdala and the hippocampus, and told that because these parts of the brain are adjacent to one another, that’s what makes you a cunt?

and so it is said in the nicest way possible. memories + impulse = nobody can predict the outcome of that. can they? everyone has their own theo-ry. but all of them, every single one, don’t believe in know your enemy. to whom or what could i possibly be working against? what incentive is there for me? not much, i know. a dirty look perhaps? doesn’t really change the fact that i find people interesting and i like to muse all about it

i deleted all of my social media because it wasn’t social at all. on a daily basis a bunch of people being shitty with each other. at first it was still horrible, then a little while later i didn’t miss it. now i can almost get through an entire day without looking at my phone. some things much more interesting than what’s on a screen. i suppose i de-evolved in my own way … nobody was around to tell me where i was going wrong in my adolescence, but i knew i wasn’t gonna marry the first person i had sex with. and then there was the whole … do i hold on? or let go? what’s the protocol here? what are you supposed to do? never figured that one out, probably never will

i reckon i’m getting a more prominent grasp of what love is. but that changes every time, doesn’t it? you think you are at the pinnacle of your entire existence, then next time it just gets even better

i’ve had a few, more than one or two, reasons so that i don’t reach out. whoever the fuck you are – because i really don’t know – whoever you think i’m really looking for – i don’t know what i want. all i know is that i’m not “not ready for it yet,” and the only details of that is that life is pretty fucking shit without it
